Third single/video ‘O Desejo Está Nu’ from Ed Motta’s upcoming album

“O Desejo Está Nu” is the third and final single lifted from Brazilian singer, songwriter and arranger Ed Motta’s upcoming new album Toc-Toc, scheduled for release digitally on September 25th and on CD / LP on October 16th via earMUSIC.

Like the previous singles, “Eu Quero Set Feliz“ and the album title track “Toc Toc“, “O Desejo Está Nu” also features lyrics in Portuguese, and is inspired by the electro, boogie-funk and R&B of the late 1970s and early 1980s, but this time Motta turns inward, stripping away everything unnecessary to arrive at something elemental: desire itself.

There is no elaborate narrative and no attempt to explain every emotion. Instead, Motta lets repetition do the work. The central phrase returns again and again, almost like a thought that becomes clearer each time it is repeated: desire is naked.

That simplicity is intentional. For his new album Toc-Toc, Motta wanted to move away from the more complex narrative approaches he had sometimes employed in the past. The songs on the album are concerned with love, human relationships, memory, and the everyday experience of being alive, but they approach these subjects without unnecessary baggage.

That distinction is particularly important in “O Desejo Está Nú”. Beneath its contemporary electronic framework is an unmistakably human song—one about what happens when the things that once defined us fall away and something more fundamental is left behind.

In an album built around the idea of looking into the past to find a way forward, “O Desejo Está Nú” captures the moment when the past finally loses its hold. What was part of the story had its time. What remains is the possibility of something new.

Desire is naked. And, perhaps, that is enough.
