Single ‘Eu Quero Ser Feliz’ by legendary Brazilian musician Ed Motta
After more than a decade dedicating his original work to an English-language repertoire, singer, songwriter, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist’s Ed Motta returns to recording in Portuguese with the release of “Eu Quero Ser Feliz”, the first taste of his upcoming fifteenth studio album Toc-Toc, to be released in September.
“Eu Quero Ser Feliz” encapsulates the spirit of the new album by revisiting elements of the sonic aesthetic found on Ed’s early albums from a fresh perspective. Inspired by the electro and boogie-funk and R&B of the late 1970s and early 1980s, the song draws on the work of artists and groups such as Cameo, S.O.S. Band, and Enchantment—influences that have accompanied the musician since his early days and have been fundamental to shaping Ed’s musical aesthetic over the years.
The composition also represents an unusual shift in his recent output. Unlike his latest works, which were conceived primarily on the piano, “Eu Quero Ser Feliz” was born on the acoustic guitar, an instrument that guided the song’s creation from its very first chords.
“The song is an ode to joy, to the romantic world of R&B (rhythm and blues)” says Motta.
