The smooth soulful sound of Al Sunny on third album ‘Summer End’
Summer End is the new album by Al Sunny, a singer-songwriter now based in Nîmes/France. It blends soul, pop and groove into a luminous and refined musical universe.
After debuting in 2017 with Time to Decide, an album praised for its authentic production and warm sound, he followed up in 2019 with Planets. This second album, recorded at Question de Son studio in Paris using analogue equipment and captured live with Guts’ backing band, helped him gain recognition beyond France, especially in Japan, where both albums were met with great success.
Now in 2025, Al Sunny releases Summer End, his third album, signed with Légère Recordings. This new record marks a significant evolution in his artistic journey while staying true to the essence of his previous work. The album was recorded in Florian Pellissier’s home (keyboardist on all three albums) during a week-long session in near isolation, with Loïs Eichelbrenner (Planet Gloria) handling the sound recording. Mixed at Question de Son studio in Paris by Jordan Kouby and mastered by Mickael Rangeard, Summer End boasts a pure and polished sound that complements its laid-back, introspective vibe.
While soul and pop remain at the heart of Al Sunny’s writing, Summer End incorporates fresh influences from artists like Sault, Khruangbin, Daniel Caesar, Anderson .Paak, and Tom Misch. The album stands out for its more nocturnal tones and atmospheric textures, offering an invitation to introspection and relaxation, while representing a subtle, natural evolution of the artist.
