French singer-songwriter Al Sunny, now based in Nîmes, blends soul, pop, west coast vibes and sunset disco into a luminous and refined musical universe of laidback grooves built on relaxed tempos, funky basslines, and lush synth textures. Known for crafting a nostalgic escape, where the vibe is always breezy, the melodies smooth, and the vocals silky, his tracks channel the spirit of artists like Toto, Michael McDonald, and Boz Scaggs, but with a contemporary production style.

His debut album, Time to Decide released on Favourite Recordings in 2017, introduced listeners to his laidback, melodic world with a collection of songs full of vintage charm and contemporary finesse. His sound became synonymous with clean guitar work, warm analog textures, vocal layering and effortlessly soulful melodies, marking the album as a standout release in the modern West Coast revival scene, and earning him a dedicated following among fans of nu-disco, city pop, and retro-influenced soul.

With his second album, Planets from 2021, again on Favourite Recordings, Al Sunny expanded his sonic universe, bringing a more cosmic and experimental feel to his signature sound. It was recorded at Question de Son studio in Paris using analog equipment and captured live with Guts‘ backing band, and while retaining the smooth production and funk-infused core of his debut, this record explores more atmospheric textures and thematic depth, and cemented his place as a key figure in the international resurgence of sophisticated, feel-good groove music.

In 2025, Al Sunny releases Summer End, his third album, marking a turning point in his career and the beginning of a collaboration with Légère Recordings. This new record marks a significant evolution in his artistic journey while staying true to the essence of his previous work. The album was recorded in Florian Pellissier‘s home (keyboardist on all three albums) during a week-long session in near- isolation, with Loïs Eichelbrenner (Planet Gloria) handling the sound recording. Mixed at Question de Son studio in Paris by Jordan Kouby and mastered by Mickael Rangeard, Summer End boasts a pure and polished sound that complements its laid-back, introspective vibe.

While soul and pop remain at the heart of Al Sunny’s writing, Summer End incorporates fresh influences from artists like Sault, Khruangbin, Daniel Caesar, Anderson .Paak, and Tom Misch. The album stands out for its more nocturnal tones and atmospheric textures, offering an invitation to introspection and relaxation, while representing a subtle, natural evolution of the artist.
