Italy-based multicultural collective Afrodream’s album ‘Guiss Guiss’

Based in Turin, Italy, and with members from Senegal, Argentina, Cameroon & Italy, multicultural collective Afrodream‘s sound is a vibrant fusion of drums, history, diaspora, and soul — a musical bridge between cultures, countries, and people, that finds it full expression in new album Guiss Guiss, a call for tolerance, understanding, and emotional slowness, set to the rhythm of afrobeat, ethnojazz, tropical funk and global grooves.

Hot on the heels of a series of incredible live shows including at Glastonbury, Saalfeld Jazz Festival, Roccella Jazz Festival and LAC Lugano that confirm the band’s growth on an international scale, Afrodeam now invite us to look beyond ourselves, to embrace diversity, and to seek bridges where we often see walls.

Album opener La musique de mélange” is a declaration of love for music as a guiding force, a travel companion, a passport, and a home. The song is an uptempo celebration of musical and cultural fusions, with lyrics in both English and French, and a thank you to music as a tool for unity, fostering a sense of community and shared experiences.

“Ma mère”, “Jambar” and “Ma belle” are all tributes to women: the first is dedicated to a wise and strong mother, a spiritual and moral guide. In Wolof, a language spoken in Senegal and other parts of West Africa, “Jambar” means “warrior”, and this song is a heartfelt declaration of love, respect, and gratitude towards those women who face life’s daily challenges with their heads held high, staying true to their values and ideals. While “Ma belle” is a promise of loyalty and mutual support to the woman loved.

In “Afrotrip”  and “Bamako” we’re taken on a sonic trip that is both literal and metaphorical. “Afrotrip” transports the listener on an inner journey through African vibrations and ancestral memories. A mantra that celebrates roots and invisible connections, recounting firsthand the migratory journey from West Africa to Europe. “Bamako” is a bold and rhythmic afrobeat anthem diving deep into the emotional and physical journey of migration. It’s a track about survival, silence, and strength — a percussive march for those who run towards hope with nothing but courage. A tribute to the fallen in the desert and the seas.

“Ethnique”  is a powerful message against the ethnic and cultural barriers that hinder love. It is a cry for freedom for those who want to express love without the limits imposed by caste, race or tradition. And album closer “Où va le vent” slows down the tempo to a smoldering, sweet, ethereal and intense ballad. It’s a poetic reflection on destiny, mystery, and absence. The wind becomes the symbol of an invisible presence that guides and accompanies.

Born at the intersection of West African heritage and Western ambition, Guiss Guiss provides a powerful message of unity through cultural exchange. The 8 tracks on this full-length are an effective, personal soundtrack for the global citizen, elevating voices and crafting anthems for those who dare move boldly between worlds.
