Jazz-funk band The Boom Yeh teases album with digital double-sider
Stalwarts of the London music scene, The Boom Yeh release a double A-sided digital single ahead of their forthcoming new album Near-Earth Objects set for release on October 4th 2024.
“Keep Right On” is a blistering syncopated jazz-funk assault reminiscent of The Brecker Brothers and Tower Of Power with an outro that echoes Johnny Hammond. Featuring horn solos from trombone player Tom White and sax player/horn arranger Ian Bailey, followed by a virtuosic drum solo courtesy of Alessio Barelli.
“Near-Earth Objects” is the title track of the upcoming album and is a high energy jazz-fusion exploring the universe of Herbie Hancock and The Headhunters with an afro-beat inspired horn outro. Featuring guest keyboard player Carl Hudson on Fender Rhodes and synthesiser.
Featuring a host of musicians that have worked with Jamiroquai, The Brand New Heavies, Incognito, Alice Russell and Leroy Hutson, new album Near-Earth Objects is a progressive artistic statement for British jazz-funk and the band’s first studio outing since the critically acclaimed Darkstar E.P in 2015.
Propelled by the powerhouse rhythm section of band leader Jon Speedy (guitar), Matteo Grassi (bass) and Alessio Barelli (drums), the grooves are interspersed with the complex horn arrangements of sax player Ian Bailey, spotlighting renowned trombone player Tom White and baritone sax player Paul Silver.
