Global grooves in single ‘I Like To Party’ by Us3 feat. MC Akil Dasan
Legendary jazz and hip-hop fusionists Us3 return with “I Like To Party”, a vibrant new single that blends infectious Afrobeat rhythms, Amapiano influences and the unmistakable jazz-infused sound that has defined the group for more than three decades.
The second single from Us3’s forthcoming 11th studio album, Snap, Crackle & Bop! finds producer Geoff Wilkinson and New York MC Akil Dasan in full celebration mode. Driven by funky clavinet riffs, live horn arrangements, irresistible grooves and an uplifting message, the track captures the universal joy of music bringing people together.
“You would have to live under a rock not to be influenced by the rise of African music in recent times. I love it”, says Geoff. “The song has elements of both Afrobeats and Amapiano whilst still retaining the jazzy Us3 vibe”.
Featuring longtime Us3 musicians Ed Jones (saxophone and flute), Bryan Corbett (trumpet and valve trombone) and Mike Gorman (keyboards), the track showcases the band’s unique ability to absorb global influences while remaining true to its signature sound.
“As a live band we often got booked as the last act on the final night of a festival because we always got everyone up and dancing”, adds Geoff. “And let’s face it, everyone likes to party.”
For Akil, the song captures the electricity of a live Us3 performance and the communal spirit of New York block parties. “It’s an incredible feeling to take the stage at an Us3 show”, says Akil. “Packed venues, world-class musicians and powerful grooves creating a shared experience. My goal for this track was to capture that feeling and blend it with the energy of the block parties we used to have on 115th Street back home in New York”.
Following the release of the tongue-in-cheek crowd favorite “Cool Cat“, new single “I Like To Party” offers another glimpse into Snap, Crackle & Bop!, an album that finds Us3 revisiting the jazz-hop foundations they helped pioneer while embracing contemporary global sounds.
The animated video for “I Like To Party” was created by London-based artist Ly Leova, whose distinctive visual style perfectly complements the song’s playful energy and infectious groove.
