Glittery disco vibes in Honoré’s ‘Ain’t No Substitute Gratitude Remix’
Blending 70s super soul in the tradition of Ashford & Simpson with a stripped-back, Nu Yorican-inspired groove – where classic craftsmanship meets modern dance floor feel…
Detroit-born, Toronto-based singer Honoré (pronounced “on-or-ray”)– voted best new artist by Soultracks last year – returns with the “Gratitude Remix” of her UK Soul Chart #1 single “Ain’t No Substitute”, reimagined by Estonian producer Martin Laksberg (Lexsoul Dance Machine).
Rebuilt from the ground up, the remix opens with space and restraint before unfolding into full Detroit Soulchestra splendour – strings, brass and rhythm section all locked in – while Honoré’s rich, expressive vocal, backed by session band the Detroit Lovers, carries the record through to a euphoric, harmony-drenched finale.
The original production was helmed by Maurice ‘Pirahnahead’ Herd and Thomas McKay, whose combined pedigree and feel for arrangement laid the foundation for a record that nods to the golden era while sounding right at home today. The release also marks Soul Jones Records stepping into the streaming world, with the catalogue now available across Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer, ahead of Honoré’s forthcoming debut album, due summer 2026.
