Eleven 76 releases cinematic new single ‘Someone’s Always There’
“Someone’s Always There” by Eleven76, the first single from its forthcoming parent album, A Day Of Unrest is an invocation of all of those paranoid and terse movies from the 60s and 70s where nothing is what it seems and the same face appears into view in different locations, always present, always there but also, nowhere.
Cold-War era spy-funk with a cinematic soul by South Londoners transplanted to the East Coast of Great Britain Paul Elliott and Dan Smith aka Eleven76, plus a Spanish guitar-led slouchy down-tempo lament with echoes of Piero Umilliani and John Barry, 16mm film crackled and over-exposed, over-saturated with claustrophobic gauche camera angles, shadowy suited figures and radio stations broadcasting string laden soundtracks book-ended by haunting electronic melodies.
A vibraslap hitting icy spring reverb ushers in the first act where Cimbaloms dance and twinkle and mellotron flutes have a deathly, romantic, discombobulating effect on the listener. Secrets and lies, plot twists, concealed weapons, sinister undisclosed threats, pressed trousers, Kompromat, swathes of cigarette smoke and lustful encounters, forever being on the run, never able to relax or rest easy.
