What they say…
A collector of hip hop, funk, soul, boogie and related beats and jazz based music since the late 80s, Chris Read rose to prominence as a club DJ through his role as resident DJ and promoter of Substance (one of the UK’s largest and longest running hip hop and funk nights) and his 2 year spell as mix DJ on BBC Radio 1Xtra. In recent years a steady output of high profile mix albums has allowed Chris to DJ around the globe. However, it is Chris‘ broad musical taste and knowledge and ability to throw the unexpected into the mix that have sealed his reputation as a popular club DJ.
Launching his production career a little over a decade ago, Chris has released music for the cream of Europe’s independent labels including Breakin Bread, Different Drummer, Push the Fader, Bastard Jazz and BBE. Recent remixes and collaborations include DJ Spinna, Oddisee, Lizzy Parks and many others. He’s also a prominent DJ on the UK and European scene spinning highly crafted sets honed over years of DJing and producing mix CDs.
Never one to rest, Chris’s 2014 release schedule is already packed with two BBE albums in the pipeline, a multitude of high profile remixes and of course Chris‘s debut Long Player for Breakin Bread entitled “Small Steps” due for release in the Spring.
