Lovers rock and dub in ‘I Miss You’ by French supergroup Zentone

A late-night jam turns into a misty ballad. With Zentone, two of France’s most influential dub forces come together: Zenzile, hailing from Angers, and High Tone, from Lyon, fusing their distinct sounds into one powerful supergroup.

For Zentone, the process starts where dub has always felt most alive: in the moment. Rather than beginning with a finished song, they build from the dub side up — rhythm, bass and melody taking shape live and direct. It’s a conversation in sound, a process of trust between musicians. A beat. A bassline. Echoes and reverb. No need for words — just the instinct to play, react and let the music unfold.

From this bubbling, smoky mix, a song slowly emerges.

Coming from somewhere distant, almost like a voice carried through the mist, Joseph’s vocals break through the deep groove. His lament speaks of absence, the fear of time and distance, and the fragile space between separation and devotion. Floating above the weight of the rhythm, his voice seems determined not to fall — a prayer, perhaps, for faith in love and in the beloved.

But Zentone doesn’t stop there.

Pushing the track further into dub territory, the group unleashes a whole series of versions, stretching and reshaping the journey. Each version travels deeper into the groove, stripping things back, bending time and space, letting the music mutate and expand. From deep roots to wild, psychedelic excursions, the dub becomes increasingly free — outer space, outer time.

Trust the process, let the music bloom.
