Feel-good latin soul in single ‘Year Of The Jubilee’ by J. Dynamite
After more than two decades spent shaping modern soul, funk and rare grooves from behind the scenes, Jeff Silverman—better known as J. Dynamite—releases the last taste of his upcoming album The Powers That Be scheduled for release on October 23rd, in the form of a feel-good 70s latin-soul inspired groover called “Year Of The Jubilee”.
Built around a deep, propulsive rhythm section, warm Fender Rhodes and piano, rolling Latin percussion, shimmering flute and saxophone, and a tightly arranged horn section, “Year Of The Jubilee” captures the spirit of classic 70s soul without treating the past as a museum piece. It is music with history in its bones, but its eyes firmly on the present. It uses vintage vocabulary—soul, funk, jazz and Latin rhythms—but reassembled into something distinctly new and alive now.
This is the final single from an album that marks a significant new chapter for an artist whose fingerprints have been all over the modern soul and funk landscape for decades. As co-founder of Truth & Soul Records alongside Leon Michels, Silverman was instrumental in the New York soul revival that grew from the interconnected worlds of Desco, Soul Fire, Truth & Soul and Daptone. He subsequently became a producer on Aloe Blacc’s breakthrough album Good Things and later brought his ear for groove and atmosphere to the world of video-game music, serving as a soundtrack producer for Rockstar Games on Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2.
