LA-based collective Sun Atlas is back with single ‘Voodoo Cobra’
Sun Atlas, the anonymous LA-based masked collective whose identities remain deliberately concealed, announce the release of “Voodoo Cobra”, a hypnotic first glimpse into their forthcoming album Law Of Attraction to be released via Phlegmatic Records.
Built around cinematic soul, psychedelic funk, Ethio-inspired melodies and a slow-burning groove, “Voodoo Cobra” moves with the patient intensity of a forgotten ritual. Instrumental and deeply atmospheric, the track feels less like a conventional single than the opening scene of an unseen film—its serpentine melodies and hypnotic percussion drawing the listener deeper into the world Sun Atlas have been constructing since their acclaimed debut, Return To The Spirit, released by Mocambo Records in 2024.
For listeners drawn to the mysterious grooves of Glass Beams, Khruangbin and Surprise Chef, “Voodoo Cobra” offers a new point of entry into the Sun Atlas universe: warm analogue textures, dusty soundtrack aesthetics, psychedelic soul and rhythms that seem to come from somewhere familiar, yet impossible to locate.
At the centre of Law Of Attraction coils the serpent. Across cultures and centuries, the symbol has carried associations of wisdom, temptation, transformation, rebirth and eternity. Within Sun Atlas, it becomes something else: a recurring presence in an imagined mythology where forgotten grooves, ritual rhythms, spiritual jazz, vintage breaks and cosmic soul exist without borders.
Law Of Attraction is not a sequel to Return To The Spirit. It is a deeper descent. The album’s ten compositions unfold like chapters recovered from a forgotten manuscript. Titles such as “The All Is Mind”, “You’re Bound By Nothing”, “Everything Flows” and “Collective Divine” suggest fragments of a lost philosophy, while the music inhabits a territory that refuses easy geographical definition. Not African. Not Middle Eastern. Not American. Not European.
Somewhere else.
Sun Atlas have always treated anonymity as part of the music itself. Nobody knows who they are. Nobody is supposed to. Faces remain hidden. Names remain unspoken. In an era defined by visibility, personality and constant access, the collective has chosen another path—removing the individual from the frame so that the composition can occupy it entirely.
That approach has already cultivated an unusual mythology around the group. Their debut 45 “The Mystic Parade” b/w “Grand Theft” disappeared almost as quickly as it appeared, with listeners mistaking the recordings for forgotten soundtrack material, obscure ’70s library music or lost hip-hop samples. Of the track on Return To The Spirit, “12th Dimension Caravan” has travelled the furthest, surpassing 170,000 Spotify streams and introducing Sun Atlas to listeners around the world.
In 2026, the world of Sun Atlas arrived at SXSW.
Now, with “Voodoo Cobra”, the next chapter begins. The track does not explain the serpent. It simply lets it appear. And once it does, the world of Law Of Attraction begins to unfold.
