Cherry Boop & The Sound Makers are a 60s soul outfit based in Paris who bring together the vocals and lyrics of mysterious frontwoman Cherry Boop with the tight musicianship of The Sound Makers and the song-writing skills of French composer Olivier Pot. Recreating the vibe of legendary labels such as Stax and Motown but with a contemporary sensibility, this band manages to put its own distinctive flavor on a sound that harks back to a golden era of soul music.

Before becoming a singer, blue-eyed girl Cherry Boop was a dancer and spent most of her life traveling the world. The collaboration with Olivier Pot and The Sound Makers was the beginning of a new journey and provided her with a musical outlet for her creativity. Cherry draws inspiration from artists such as Brenda Halloway, Dusty SpringfieldDonny Hathaway, and Otis Redding and her repertoire of songs goes from Soul Music to Northern Soul-Pop, with a French touch close to that of Gainsbourg’s female singers.

Since embarking on a musical career Cherry has collaborated with Bobby Eli, (the guitar player of renowned Philly band MFSB), recorded a magical duet with William Hart (from The Delfonics), and been on tour with fabulous international singers such as Lee Fields and the Expressions (NYC- Brooklyn) and Amp Fidler (Detroit). The suave tone of her voice has secured her gigs in the jazz scene (in festivals such as Moiz’aique Festival, or New Jazz Festival in Nice), as well as in Northern Soul and Mod shows.

For the tour of their first album “The Way I Am” which was released in 2014 and sold throughout the world from the UK to Japan, Cherry Boop & The Sound Makers played in prestigious venues in Paris like The New Morning, Le Trabendo, and La Maroquinerie. The band is now ready to extend their influences with new collaboration, such as with Andy Lewis, famous DJ and producer (member of UK indie legends Spearmint and now playing the bass with Paul Weller) who remixed 2 tracks for their latest EP with an up-tempo, Northern soul feel.

Retro but never dated, sweet but not saccharine, and definitely a name to watch out for, on stage Cherry Boop and her band bring back the spirit of those big groups that shook and excited the crowds on Saturday night dance floors in the 60s. Keep an eye out for Cherry Boop & The Sound Makers to hit a town near you as they continue touring Europe and beyond!
