UK soft rock duo Smith & Liddle release single and video ‘Minute Ago’

Smith & Liddle’s new single “Minute Ago” is a sneak peak into their upcoming debut album, Songs For The Desert. The track is a soft rock offering into a gateway of California dreaming in the late 70s.

“Minute Ago” came about via a chorus idea Elizabeth (Liddle) had circling in her mind for months. The song came into fruition when Billy (Smith) contributed his trademark chord foundations to this earworm, inspiring a track that has come to define the sound of this fresh, young and wonderfully nostalgic UK duo.

Taking inspiration from the recording techniques of Sound City, the duo worked with producer Josh Ingledew to complete this stand out track. Adding into the mix Phil Richardson on piano, Robb Maynard on drums and Emma Robson on additional backing vocals, Smith & Liddle found themselves on a roll with this one, completing the track from start to finish in three days.

The band describe the song as an empowering moment in someone’s life when they ultimately come to realise that they deserve better. “Minute Ago” takes inspiration from the Buckingham & Nicks era of Fleetwood Mac, with the band citing Michael McDonald’s If That’s What It Takes album also as a huge influence on the musical choices in this song.

“Minute Ago” out on 45 / Digitally on Sep. 5th 2025 via Légère Recordings
