Ten years after its initial release, The Double Sunrise by Lanu will finally be available on vinyl, in a suitably beautiful presentation. Melbourne soul purveyor Lance Ferguson has released many albums over his more than twenty five year recording career across numerous artist projects such as Menagerie, Rare Groove Spectrum, Machines Always Win, Cookin’ On 3 Burners and of course his most well known act, The Bamboos. But one of the most beloved amongst fans was the third album that he did under his Lanu guise, The Double Sunrise, which was released on CD and digitally in 2016.

The remastered 10th anniversary vinyl presentation comes in a deluxe gatefold sleeve with orange and yellow “sunset” coloured vinyl and each copy has its own unique swirl design.

The romanticism and mythology of the South Pacific region and the exotica musical genre, seeps through The Double Sunrise. The region is also a place with a very personal connection to Ferguson, including a direct one through his grandfather, guitarist Bill Wolfgramm, one of the region’s most important musical pioneers, as well as what was once the most beautiful and opulent aviation route in the world.

The Double Sunrise is a re-imagining of exotica seen through his own lens, which includes pop and hip hop elements plus samplers, synths and drum machines thrown into the mix. That combination of beats and lush cinematics owes as much to exotica pioneer Martin Denny as it does to DJ Shadow.

“Over the last decade quite a few people have said to me that ‘The Double Sunrise’ is their favourite album of mine, which has been heartwarming as the record has always been a very personal one for me – It’s the sound of me trying to reconcile various aspects of my life history, family legacy, heritage and musical influence into one piece. I’ve had the real honour of having this music touch some people’s lives: When my dear Mum passed away in 2024, my family chose the last song on the album ‘Down’ as the one to close out her service. I also received a beautiful letter from a Dad in the UK whose young autistic son had become fixated on the song “Nightmarchers”, playing it over and over again to calm himself and relieve anxiety. As personal as this music might be for me, the very nature of its themes and aesthetic is geared to be transformative and transportive for the listener. Let it take you places! It’s so great to have this one finally available on vinyl”. – Lance Ferguson, 2026
