Scottish trumpeter Malcolm Strachan is on a ‘Quest For Love’

One of the UK’s most in-demand trumpet players and a founding member of The Haggis Horns, Malcolm Strachan releases new single “Quest For Love”, a warm, late-night soul-jazz cut that feels as natural on a dancefloor as it does on a headphones deep dive.

Featuring guest vocals from Tanja Daese (aka Lucinda Slim) – known for her work with The Haggis Horns and her own solo releases on Haggis Records – “Quest For Love” blends infectious groove, soulful melody and a subtle dancefloor sensibility. Built around a strong, catchy hook and tight rhythm section interplay, the track combines elements of soul jazz with hints of dance music, making it one of the most accessible and immediately engaging cuts from Strachan’s forthcoming album. Driven by a laid-back but insistent groove, Malcolm’s trumpet lines weave effortlessly around Tanja’s understated vocal.

With “Quest For Love” Strachan also announces his upcoming third solo album Look On The Bright Side, that follows the critically acclaimed About Time (2020) and Point Of No Return (2023), both of which received strong international radio support. Where his previous full-lengths drew more explicitly from classic Blue Note and CTI-era jazz, “Quest For Love” points towards a broader palette for the upcoming album, pulling in touches of soul, dance music and groove-led jazz without losing its centre.

Over a career spanning more than two decades, Malcolm Strachan has recorded and toured with artists including Mark Ronson, Amy Winehouse, Corinne Bailey Rae, Jamiroquai, Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, Jess Glynne and Blue Note Legend Lou Donaldson – establishing him as one of the UK’s leading trumpet players across jazz, funk, and soul.
