Rising young Estonian star RETI drops digital double-sider ‘My Home’
Fresh off the buzz from her recent single “Shake“, which stirred up airwaves both locally and internationally, rising Estonian star RETI drops new heat from her upcoming debut album scheduled to drop in the Fall.
Courtesy of Funk Embassy Records, her new double single, aptly titled “My Home”, features a compelling two-sided offering: the title track, a heartfelt ballad, and the dance-floor-ready digital b-side, “Party People (Going Home)”, primed for those long summer nights.
“My Home” is a tender soul cut blending raw emotion, vintage textures, and slow-burning grooves in just under four minutes… Penned back in the spring of 2021, it has been simmering for four years, its raw sincerity now ready to connect with listeners in its recorded form. According to RETI, the track is an ode to the people who provide that essential feeling of safety and groundedness, much like home itself.
“This isn’t just about romantic love—it’s about true, genuine love,” RETI explains. “As the song took shape, I realized that my true home is my little sister Romi, who’s also my best friend. I’d do anything for her”.
The flip side, “Party People (Going Home)”, marks another collaboration with producer Martin Laksberg, who also lent his touch to “Shake”. Structurally, the track throws out the traditional songwriting rulebook. Eschewing a conventional chorus, the instrumental arrangement and background vocals take the lead groove, allowing RETI’s vocals to unfold through improvisation. For this track, RETI approached her voice as another instrument: “A song doesn’t always need lyrics to communicate. The voice itself is the singer’s expressive tool, and that’s the concept I wanted to explore here”. She aptly describes the tune as “a warm summer breeze on a late evening”.
“With this track, we wanted to capture that moment when you’re telling your friends—maybe for the fifth time—that you really should head home after a long night out,” RETI shares. “That feeling is conveyed through the repeated lead vocal line and the enthusiastic chants in the background vocals.”
Behind the name RETI is Reti Niimann, a young and dynamic artist carving her own space in the realms of soul and funk. Already an experienced performer at young age, she’s graced the stages of festivals like Tallinn Music Week and Jazzkaar. Her artistic compass points towards the legendary collaboration of Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones, an influence that deeply resonated during the writing process of her forthcoming debut album.
