Peyoti For President founded by Anglo-Italian musician, composer, producer and performer Peyoti, are world fusion gypsy beatnik revolutionaries born out of the urban decay of London suburbia but now based in Portugal.
Frontman Peyoti is the definition of a world citizen, born an orphan in England and adopted in Birmingham, he spent time in Cuba in his 20s, moved to Barcelona in 2011, explored Mexico at length and currently resides in Portugal.
Peyoti started composing melodies at the tender age of 9, whilst simultaneously learning guitar, becoming interested in more worldly-Latin music after spending time in Havana. Musically speaking he is an alchemist, fusing diverse styles and moulding them around quintessential ‘pop’ melodies creating anthems with lyrical messages that question our shared sense of humanity and its modern-day values.
2 years after starting the project Peyoti for President in London, there were invited to support Manu Chao on the La Radiolina UK Tour.
The formations’s debut album, Rising Tide of Conformity was released in 2009 both physical & digital, with all reviews being incredibly favourable with 5 stars in The Independent and 4 stars in Rolling Stone. Some of those early single releases were underground hits on College / University radio, especially in Germany & Poland.
Meanwhile, the ‘live’ band went on to perform at prestigious venues and festivals including London’s ‘Roundhouse’ in Camden, Glastonbury and distinguished festivals in wider Europe, notably Woodstock in Poland, Europe’s largest free festival. During that time the band was billed alongside; L.A.’s Gogol Bordello, Cuba’s Buena Vista Social Club, Iggy Pop & UK’s Massive Attack, to name just a few.
Peyoti moved to Barcelona early summer of 2011 and a new live band was soon in progress. Several more tours followed and TV appearance in eastern Europe in 2014 supported by an EP release that same year. Soon thereafter a further move brought him to Portugal where he officially resides to this day.
During this time Peyoti performed literally hundreds of smaller shows across 3 continents including North & South America and Asia. A side-step into music production for ‘Sync’ has resulted in original songs being featured as part of film / TV / Documentary perhaps most notable, Netflix’s Gentefied.
The new album by Peyoti for President had its inception in Mexico / Colombia where Peyoti was submerged in the music & culture, plus 2 years self-isolation in the mountainous region of southern Portugal (in his glorious home-studio) and a very fortuitous meeting & collaboration with German born music producer Marc Mennigmann. The new full-length is the pinnacle of Peyoti For President so far… let’s see if you agree!
