Time for Scottish trumpeter Malcolm Strachan to ‘Cut To The Chase’

Scottish trumpeter Malcolm Strachan (from UK funk kings The Haggis Horns) is back with new solo material in the form of single “Cut To The Chase”, an uptempo, rhythm-heavy Latin jazz burner.

This single anticipates Strachan‘s second solo album Point Of No Return due out on January 27th, 2023. Like its predecessor About Time from 2021, it’s also on Haggis Records and will be available as a digital download, CD, and a limited edition vinyl pressing.

“Cut To The Chase” was written by and features Malcolm on muted trumpet soloing alongside some punchy brass section playing that really drives the composition. Pianist George Cooper (from The Jazz Defenders) adds a nice short solo after Malcolm‘s before percussionist Sam Bell heats up the bongos on the fadeout.

One of the big dancefloor-friendly compositions on the album, “Cut To The Chase” definitely has a film soundtrack feel to it reminiscent of those 1960s spy thrillers where cars screech around dark streets in pursuit of each other. An excellent sampler for the new LP further showing Malcolm‘s talent as a composer and arranger alongside his skills as a soloist.
