Nao Yoshioka and Vietnamese artist Mỹ Anh on single ‘Pieces Of Me’
New York-based Japanese artist Nao Yoshioka collaborates with Vietnamese artist Mỹ Anh on new single “Pieces of Me”, a song centered around the theme of self-love. Although both artists share roots in Asia, they have each pursued a global path by expressing R&B/Soul in English. Despite having established music markets in their home countries, they chose to stay true to their own artistic vision. The loneliness, inner conflict, and strong determination behind that choice created an immediate and deep resonance when they first connected.
Part of the production took place in Hanoi, Vietnam, where the song was shaped organically through local recording sessions and cultural experiences. The two artists’ distinct backgrounds blend naturally, resulting in a nostalgic mid-tempo R&B track. The song is produced by Shuko, known for his work with artists such as Ella Mai and Kanye West. His delicate and warm soundscape subtly supports the introspective nature of the track.
“Pieces of Me” explores the process of accepting oneself, embracing every part, both good and bad. Each fragmented emotion and experience comes together to shape one’s identity, ultimately leading to a true ensemble of belonging. Rather than seeking validation from others, the song encourages listening closely to one’s inner voice, the voice that reminds you, “I am enough as I am”. It captures a quiet yet powerful moment of self-acceptance.
Nao explains: “When Mỹ Anh and I first met, we talked about what kind of emotions we could share. We wanted the song to come naturally from what we had in common.
I was born and raised in Japan, but I’ve been singing R&B and Soul in English and working between Japan and overseas. Through that, there were times I felt uncertain or alone about where I belonged. Mỹ Anh shared similar feelings as she builds her career globally from Vietnam, and we immediately connected on that level.
I think this isn’t just about music, it’s something many people feel: the gap between their roots or environment and what they truly want to do. But no matter the situation, simply being yourself can bring a sense of freedom. That’s what I wanted to express through this song.I’m really happy we were able to bring this song to life together, over Shuko’s light and uplifting production. I hope this track can help people reconnect with themselves.”
