‘My Future’ by Lance Ferguson’s Rare Groove Spectrum w/ Rita Satch
New Zealand-born, Melbourne-based, multi-hyphenate Lance Ferguson (The Bamboos / Machines Always Win / Menagerie), returns with a rich reinterpretation of Billie Eilish’s 2020 hit “My Future”, featuring the powerhouse vocals of Rita Satch. The new single offers another glimpse into Lance’s forthcoming album Rare Groove Spectrum Vol. 3, due out Friday 21st November.
Bringing a sultry,1970s soul aesthetic to Eilish’s introspective pop ballad, Lance blends live instrumentation and lush harmonic layers with Rita Satch’s compelling vocal delivery, creating a version that’s both reverent and strikingly original.
“Billie Eilish’s ‘My Future’ is a great example of a contemporary pop tune that has real harmonic interest – it’s almost like a modern jazz standard,” Lance explains. “I had messed around with this a while ago as a guitar instrumental but I felt it would really shine on this record with Rita Satch on vocals… She really makes the song her own, it’s an incredible performance.”.
Following previous singles “Could Heaven Ever Be Like This“ and “Dominoes“, “My Future” is the third release from Rare Groove Spectrum, Vol. 3, a continuation of Lance’s celebrated series that shines new light on soul, jazz and funk deep cuts and classics.
