Kerbside Collection deliver second new single ‘Sittin’ On The Porch’
“Sittin’ On The Porch” is the second single and next taste lifted from Cue Blue, the 5th album from Brisbane groove merchants Kerbside Collection. Aptly titled, the single finds the group leaning into the cooler, more laidback side of the album’s sound, simmering things down nicely for a late-summer/early-autumn slow-burner — a silky, guitar-led soul groove with plenty of room to breathe.
Loose, raw and unhurried, “Sittin’ On The Porch” meanders into slight Southern Louisiana Delta blues territory, while at the same time conjuring the hot, muggy atmosphere and familiar suburban imagery of the band’s Australian home turf. It’s the musical equivalent of kicking back outside as the day starts to fade, cold drink in hand, with the last of the heat still hanging in the air.
There’s a wonderfully homespun quality to the track, too. Kooky little Casio percussion touches weave their way through the groove, evoking the everyday soundtrack of suburban backyards and streets — sprinklers spinning across lawns, mozzies buzzing about, distant cars passing by and clouds slowly rolling overhead. These sounds and textures are folded into the arrangement rather than simply sitting on top of it, giving the tune a slightly hazy, almost cinematic quality.
Guitarist TC Tyler adds another layer of swampy atmosphere, channelling bluesy John Lee Hooker and R.L. Burnside flavours into the mix, with those hypnotic, repetitive guitar figures helping the whole thing settle into its easy, porch-sitting sway. The trombone and guitar work together to paint in the passing scenery, while the rhythm section keeps everything gently simmering underneath.
It’s a track that doesn’t feel the need to rush anywhere — and that’s precisely the point.“Sittin’ On The Porch” captures Kerbside Collection at their most relaxed and atmospheric, blending their soulful groove sensibilities with blues, backyard field recordings and a distinctly Australian sense of place. You can almost hear the sprinklers, feel the evening breeze and, if you’re unlucky, feel the sticky humidity on your skin.
“Sittin’ On The Porch” out digitally on Sep. 4th 2026 via Légère Recordings
