Jake Mason Trio featuring Kate Ceberano in ‘Stop Searching For Love’

ARIA-nominated Jake Mason Trio (Jake Mason on organ, James Sherlock on guitar, and Danny Fischer on drums), turns inward with “Stop Searching for Love”, a luminous heart-centered soul-jazz ballad that presents the gentler, soulful side of the trio and features the incomparable Kate Ceberano. This is the second single from forthcoming album The Modern Ark due out February 13th 2026 via Soul Messin’ Records.

Kate Ceberano is an Australian icon. The celebrated vocalist and songwriter has 11 platinum and 8 gold albums, was the first woman to be inducted into the the Australian Songwriters Hall of Fame, and was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Australian Women in Music Awards. However she is no stranger to jazz – her first solo album in 1987 was the much-loved live record Kate Ceberano and her Septet. Her 2023 collaboration with Paul Grabowsky Tryst won the ARIA and the AIR award for ‘Jazz Album of the Year’.

There’s a natural musical chemistry between Mason and Ceberano that stretches back more than a decade, across co-writing and studio collaborations with Eric McCusker. “Stop Searching for Love”, co-written by Mason/ McCusker, brings their collaboration full circle. Ceberano’s performance bridges eras — channelling the torch singers of the sixties while speaking directly to the now. Her velvet phrasing and effortless control deliver every line with quiet joy: part late-night jazz lounge, part gospel embrace.

Supported by Mason’s Hammond, James Sherlock’s shimmering guitars and Danny Fischer’s brushes, the song creates a space that feels lived-in, comforting, and unhurried. Recorded vintage-style live-to-tape in Melbourne, and mixed for Dolby Atmos, “Stop Searching for Love” glows with the same analogue warmth that defines Soul Messin’ releases.

Jake Mason says: “Kate has this rare ability to make a lyric sound like a truth you’ve always known. This song is about surrender — that moment when you realise you don’t need to chase love anymore, because it’s already around you”.
