Grupo Pilon revisit Cabo Verde’s funaná music in album ‘Nu Sta Li’

Grupo Pilon proudly presents their new album Nu Sta Li, a vibrant celebration of Cabo Verde’s rich musical heritage infused with a fresh, contemporary energy. Rooted in the infectious rhythms of funaná, the band blends tradition and modernity to create a sound that’s both deeply authentic and irresistibly danceable for today’s global audience.

Since the 1990s, Grupo Pilon has been a key force in revitalizing Cabo Verdean music, merging traditional instruments like accordion and ferrinho with dynamic drums, guitar, bass, and keyboards. Their latest work, recorded at Unison Studios in Luxembourg, channels years of touring experience and cultural pride into eight warm, rhythmic tracks full of life and soul.

Led by drummer Antonino Gomes and featuring a talented ensemble of musicians, Nu Sta Li captures the spirit of Cabo Verde while pushing the genre forward with contemporary flair and passion. The album skillfully balances the joyful energy of funaná with elements of soulful melodies, intricate percussion, and powerful vocals, offering listeners a deeply immersive musical journey.

Each track pays homage to the island’s rich history while embracing a modern sound palette, making Nu Sta Li a fresh and compelling addition to the global world music scene. Whether on stage or in the studio, Grupo Pilon’s connection to their roots shines through, inviting audiences everywhere to dance, celebrate, and connect.
