Italy-born, Denmark-based multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, and vocalist Alex Puddu returns with his electrifying new album Francia Meccanica, a pulsating nine-track collection channeling the refined sexiness of late ’80s/early ’90s disco-electronica. It blends catchy hooks, up-tempo grooves, funky basslines, acid sax riffs, and erotic spoken-word in Italian and French into an irresistible cocktail of transgression and romance.
At its heart lies a gothic-modern tale set against France’s sultry nightlife: the album kicks off with the pulsating opener “Notte In Riviera”, plunging you into a night of erotic encounters with a seductive lady vampire on the French Riviera beach. It’s the perfect setup for the album’s core theme: the dangerous thrill of uncontrollable desire. With its super-catchy melody and prime ’80s pop-disco groove blending French and Italo vibes, this party starter showcases Alex at his grooviest best.
From there, the narrative spirals into darker territory with “L’Amour Dangereux”, an extreme take on “La femme dangereuse est l’amour” amid French nightclub hedonism, evoking ’80s garage and deep-house, while “Dolce e Violenta” follows with sleazy sax, blue lights like an erotic film noir intro—minimal house beats, smooth synths, and Alex’s vocals channeling Luca Carboni new pop, laced with lyrics of possession by a perverted mind.
Alex brings the boogie back on “Trasgressiva”, a true Italian funk-summer scorcher where he handles drums, keys-synths, and a brilliant lead guitar solo reminiscent of the Isley Brothers’ soul classic “That Lady”. Then “St. Tropez” the album’s third single and another banger, delivers sexy cool pop-disco as Alex duets in French with C-line Mia over a catchy melody and bass-synth groove.
The kinky energy peaks in “Il Piacere dei Vampiri”, blending garage and acid disco for sexy, orgiastic vampire dreams, before “Parigi Perversa” shifts to a desperate chase through Paris’s sins and confessions. Powered by breakbeats and soulful vocals from Imelda alongside Alex’s cool Italian-French delivery, it’s inspired by Massive Attack’s “Unfinished Sympathy” and Stereophonics’ “Maybe Tomorrow”—a brilliant standout.
With Francia Meccanica Puddu—renowned for distilling neo-soul, synth-pop, Italo-disco, and ’70s/’80s soulful grooves into sleek, elegant productions—sweeps listeners into wild Riviera nights of shimmering synths and sun-soaked escapism.
