Estonian star RETI’s final single is haunting soul ballad ‘Tell Me’
Hot on the heels of her shows at the legendary London Jazz Cafe opening for disco legend Evelyn ‘Champagne’ King, rising Estonian star RETI releases “Tell Me”, a haunting soul ballad and the third and final single lifted from her upcoming debut album Blue Hour scheduled to drop on October 24th on Estonian Funk Embassy.
“Tell Me” is a soulful and spiritual track that was first penned by RETI in 2021 when she was just 20 years old, but has now been given a complete rework, with RETI handling the new arrangement and adding a violin part that she recorded herself. This new version, produced by Martin Laksberg, is a testament to her growth as an artist as she channels Minnie Riperton‘s heartfelt singing and high notes.
The song is also deeply personal: “Tell Me is my first single, which I wrote about my first relationship. For my debut album, I made a new arrangement for it, which gave it a new breath of life and emotional meaning. I wanted this song to touch the listener’s soul in the best possible way, to bring out new nuances in me and to challenge me as a songwriter.”
Both dark and delicate, “Tell Me” is a song that is sure to resonate with soul lovers and the perfect final sneak peak into the upcoming album, already available to pre-oder from Funk Embassy’s website here.
Behind the name RETI is Reti Niimann, a young and dynamic artist carving her own space in the realms of soul and funk. Already an experienced performer at young age, she’s graced the stages of festivals like Tallinn Music Week and Jazzkaar. Her artistic compass points towards the legendary collaboration of Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones, an influence that deeply resonated during the writing process of her forthcoming debut album.
