Carwyn Ellis & Rio 18 team up with Nina Miranda on ‘Shades Of Red’
“Shades of Red” is the second song to be released from the forthcoming album Haf by Carwyn Ellis & Rio 18. It features longtime Rio 18 collaborator Nina Miranda (Smoke City / Nitin Sawhney) on ethereal vocals, with a lyrical roll call of some the numerous shades of red – 17 in all!
Musically-speaking, the track is the last remaining tune from the collective’s 2023 sessions at the legendary Toerag Studios which comprised last year’s Fontana Rosa LP. Originally a jam session outtake, Carwyn took his timewith this one – eventually writing lyrics a year later and further embellishing the song with flute by Jim Hunter (Amy Winehouse / Primal Scream / Liam Gallagher) and a whole array of Brazilian percussion by Andre Siqueira (Ivan Lins / Simone Rogé / Antonio Adolfo). The end result is a Latin groove monster which starts out mysteriously, progressively getting wilder – and redder – as it goes!
Haf is available to buy on LP and CD now from Bandcamp and Bubblewrap Collective, and will be available digitally and from your local record shop in February 2026.
