Al Sunny says “Goodbye” to summer with new soul-pop single
“Goodbye” is the first single from Summer End, the upcoming new album by Al Sunny, a singer-songwriter now based in Nîmes/France, known for blending blue‑eyed soul, West Coast vibes, pop, and folk into his distinctively smooth sound.
“Goodbye” is a false ballad. It may sound melancholic at first, but it deals with a more complex emotion — the difficulty of reaching out to others when you’re not feeling well. The verses are intentionally soft and introspective, almost like a quiet monologue. But when the choruses arrive, they open up lifted by layered backing vocals.
Al Sunny states: “The goal was to create a sense of unity — to remind us that we’re never truly alone, even when it feels that way. The bridge brings a turning point. The introduction of major 7 chords creates a release, a sense of inner calm and emotional resolution. Originally, the song was inspired by a Snarky Puppy track, but it gradually moved in another direction — more vocal-driven, more personal, and more direct in its emotional expression”.
Summer End will mark a significant evolution in his artistic journey while staying true to the essence of his previous work. While soul and pop remain at the heart of Al Sunny’s writing, Summer End incorporates fresh influences from artists like Sault, Khruangbin, Daniel Caesar, Anderson .Paak and Tom Misch.
