Funk at the Forge w/ The Pimptones, Crowd Company & more

One of London’s hottest club nights, Funk at The Forge, is inaugurating the new season on Saturday September 10th with an absolutely killer lineup! Co-headlining this very popular night are two of the UK’s most in-demand funk acts – Nick Pride & The Pimptones and Crowd Company. Topping things off will be more live music from Gracie and Willwork4funk boss and DJ Calamity Jade spinning funk & soul goodies from her record bag.

Soul funk powerhouse Nick Pride & The Pimptones are riding high with the release of their new album “Go Deep” out on German label Légère Recordings. The band’s sound blends funky grooves with slick soulful arrangements that have harmonic sophistication but delivered with a heavyweight punch that keeps the dance floor moving. Their sharp suited live show kicks off with tight, punchy instrumentals, making way to sweetly crafted soul songs as they are joined onstage by sultry soul siren Beth Macari.

Original retro funk and soul with a modern twist from 8 piece band Crowd Company, one of London’s leading bands of the genre. Brimful of energy with a raw edge, catchy hooks, and tight grooves, the band have a finely tuned sound based around retro funk grooves with a soulful edge, evoking the spirit of 60s and early 70s funk. Crowd Company’s recent album “Now Or Never” features appearances by Alan Evans from Soulive and Joe Tatton from The New Mastersounds.

Hailing from Milan, Italy, DJ Calamity Jade is a DJ, radio host and manager of Willwork4funk promotion agency. From spinning in leading clubs of the funk/soul circuit in Italy and abroad (Germany, France, Switzerland and NYC), or opening/closing for acts such as The New Mastersounds (UK), The Mighty Mocambos (DE), Myles Sanko (UK), and more, Calamity Jade has been incessantly bringing her bags of vinyl goodness to the most discerning ears and funky dancefloors.

Formed in Leeds, Gracie explores a spectrum of funk, neo-soul tones, hip hop and jazz, fronted by singer / songwriter Grace Convert. Taking a collaborative process of arrangement and drawing from a wide variety of popular genres the group present a unique sound including playful live instrumentation and emotive vocals.
